Privacy
Privacy policy.
Short version: the CoC Finder runs in your browser. We do not host HMIS or client-level data. We count visits, watch heatmaps, and respect your browser's privacy signals.
What this site is
The CoC Alliance is a network of over 1,900 Continuum of Care and HMIS leaders. This site is a public hub: a description of the network, a CoC Finder, and a request-to-join page. Day-to-day coordination happens on Slack. We are not a software vendor, we do not run HMIS, and we never receive client-level data.
The CoC Finder runs in your browser
The CoC Finder loads a static dataset of CoC boundaries when you open the page. Your ZIP code, state, county, and city searches are evaluated against that local copy in your browser. We do not log your search queries.
If you ask to join Slack
Joining the network means emailing [email protected] with your name, your organization, and the CoC or HMIS you work with. That email is kept in our inbox like any other correspondence. The actual Slack workspace is operated by Slack Technologies under Slack's own privacy policy. Once you join, your presence, messages, and profile are governed by Slack, not by us.
What the site collects automatically
Three small services run in the background on every page.
- Google Analytics 4: counts page views and traffic sources. Aggregate numbers only.
- Microsoft Clarity: heatmaps and anonymized session replays so we can see where the layout confuses people. Text inside any form inputs is masked by default.
- Sentry: JavaScript error reports. Only fires when something on the page actually breaks.
If your browser sends Global Privacy Control, all three are skipped (see below).
What we don't do
- No ad networks, no remarketing, no behavioral advertising.
- No sale of any data. Not to brokers, not to anyone.
- No collection of HMIS data, client-level data, or PII through this site.
- No tracking across other sites.
Third parties
- Cloudflare: hosts the site. Privacy policy.
- Google Analytics: Privacy policy · opt-out extension.
- Microsoft Clarity: Privacy statement.
- Sentry: Privacy policy.
- Slack: operates the member workspace. Privacy policy.
Your privacy controls
We don't show a cookie banner. Instead, the page reads your browser's Global Privacy Control signal. If your browser sends it, we automatically skip Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity, and Sentry.
Global Privacy Control is on by default in Firefox, Brave, and DuckDuckGo. For Chrome, Safari, or Edge, the EFF Privacy Badger extension turns it on.
Your rights
You can ask us to delete the email correspondence we have from you at any time. Email [email protected] and we will confirm. Slack membership is managed in Slack itself.
Children
This site is intended for adult professionals working in homeless services and is not directed at children.
Changes
If we change how the site handles data, we will update this page and bump the "Last updated" date at the top.
